In the heart of summer, it's important to make sure
that your ride is ready for potentially high temperatures. Here are a few tips to help you keep your car
in top running condition throughout the season:
Inspect your vehicle
regularly.Start with checking your tire pressure, but only when your vehicle is parked in the shade and hasn't
been driven for at least an hour. Then check the battery for any wear or
corrosion, as excessive heat can accelerate corrosion and drain the battery's
fluid. Finally, check your coolant and make sure that the coolant system is
filled.
Don't ignore the warning
lights. If the battery looks fine but the battery warning light stays
on, you might have a problem with your alternator. You'll want to get this
checked out as soon as possible.
Lighten the load. Try not to
carry too much stuff with you during the summer, since a heavy load adds strain
to a transmission that's already fighting the heat.
Make sure to protect both the exterior
and the interior. Give your car's
exterior a fresh coat of wax or sealant, and take care of the interior
to help preserve its appearance while you're at it.
